Actually a young girl, yes, Mercedes Jellinek or something like that. Will post a link:
That new model later would be named "Mercedes 35 hp" and it was a very important advance in automobile design. The contract called for delivery of the first automobile to Jellinek in the Fall, but it did not reach him until December 22, 1900. He became obsessed with the name Mercedes and even had his name changed to Jellinek-Mercedes. Jellinek was invited to sit on the DMG board of directors, which he did from 1901 until 1909, when he retired from automotive activities in favor of diplomatic appointments.
(Mercedes was this guys daughters name. Whole thing pretty creepy, changed his name to include his daughters first name, went around pretty much naming his property, yacht, etc "Mercedes")
Dinkydionline: No, the star was a whole other story. Mercedes didn't die on a sinking ship either, but died all alone at a fairly young age too, pretty sad story I guess.

Finally, a question i can answer! BRABUS is an independent tuner of all MBs. You buy a Benz, drive it over to their shop, and you get a BRABUS. They're so custom, they have a whole new name. AMG is Mercedes' in-house tuner. They work for Mercedes and upgrade MBs (though never nearly as much as BRABUS) You may have heard of an SL55 AMG. It's just an SL500 with a trip thru AMG. Kompressor(proper spelling) is just a word on the side that designates a turbocharged or supercharged car. If i remember right, it means Compressed in German. SL 500 = SL-class 5 liter S55 AMG = S-Class 5.5 L AMG-tuned BRABUS K8: BRABUS renames its customized SL-class the K8. What K8 means, i have no clue. Hope it helps.

Yes, I think your other answer is on the money, I think the hood ornament is modeled on her, she died when the ship she was on sank, not sure if it was the Titanic.
