If a president massivly cut funding for your beloved social programs, and also raised taxes more than any other president since WWII to create a 'surplus', would you be upset or happy?

I would say "well golly gee... doesn't sound like a president at all, because congress has to do all those things... the president can only sign the bill?"

I would also say... that person did everything that conservatives say they want? fiscal responsibility through cutting social programs?

and was funding cut... or were the programs redesigned to be more efficient and the rules of the programs changed? that's a HUGE... HEAR THAT... HUGE difference...

I still want more welfare reform... but I fully support the idea of welfare... and I fully support attempting to balance the books... even though that's not always possible either... but I appreciate an attempt... even if taxes have to be raised a bit...

So you're going to say "Ha, that's what slick Willy did!" Okay, but I'd rather have the USA, a free country with no debt than one that is completely owned by the Chinese. Don't believe me, who do you think buys all of our debt when they auction it off? GWB has made future generations of this country their slaves all because of a personal war against another arrogant dictator.

The congress and the president spent the '90s cleaning up the mess created by Reaganomics. This was not done by clinton alone but also the republican controlled congress. GWB entered office with a 5.6 trillion dollar surplus and now we are twice that in debt. How does that make us free. He passed the Real ID Act which has included in it the rules and regulations to track all american citizens at all times (not terrorists or illegal immigrants, good hard working legal citizens). How does that make us free?

upset. what good is a surplus if it's not going to good use? Especially if you don't cut military spending, which was in the new for gross incompitance (again) when it came to finances. Ever heard of the 400 dollar toilet seat? With the amount of money they waste, we could fund those social programs for a long time. or you could equip all of our troops with body armor with plenty left to spare.

here's a Hypothetical: if the Government cut military spending by 2/3 and kept track of the Pentagon's finances to eliminate any waste, resulting in no drop in military preparedness, would you consider that a good thing or a bad thing?

Quite happy, since the surplus needs to be dealt with considering we owe massive amounts to the Chinese...

If what you really want to see is a surplus, the answer is neither to cut social services spending nor to increase taxes. The answer is to get out of Iraq and every other country in whch the US doesn't belong.

BTW, the presence of US troops and contractors in Iraq (another country's civil war, and has been for close to 2 years) costs $10,000,000./MINUTE.

Hypothetically, the democrats will be stuck with all the damage the republicans have done. And I'm sure that at least, hypothetically, the republicans will continue to complain and whine about WHATEVER the democrats do or try to do,because that's what conservatives do best. They think that they are the only Americans in America.

Anyway RAMBO....go to IRAQ...do not come home until we win

Surplus....fact we have not been debt free since the administration of Andrew Jackson. I suggest you consider an education...that would help me get happy.

Only if the President was a Democrat. To liberals, Democrats do no wrong. Great question.
