I like all the "local flavor" responses. Great to learn. I find it fascinating that no one mentioned that the Cubs are National League and the White Sox are American League or maybe I just missed it. It is very telling of the baseball spirit in Chicago. Must be one great city to watch a game. As a Red Sox and Mets Fan I can understand to some degree, it is all about the spirit of the game and the competition between fans.

Back in the 70's the Cubs were just awful and the Sox were ok. The broadcaster for the Sox was Harry Caray and he was a ton of fun. The Sox got new owners and let Harry go and he went to the north side and then all of a sudden the Cubs games were sold out and it was a party every day up there. For years in Chicago the story was about the 69 Cubs and their choking. Nobody ever really thought of the White Sox because America loves a loser. That changed last year with the Sox winning the World Series. Tv ratings changed and attendance changed and the Sox were the big show in town. A true Chicagoan is either one or the other. You love one team and hate the other. If you hear somebody I love both teams they were not born in Chicago. By the way to the Detroit fan above...at least we didn't choke in the Series and your pitchers will be in trouble this year with all the work they did last year. The year after a young team goes to the playoffs arm troubles are very common. My best to clubhouse cancer Gary Sheffield.

Several reasons. The Cubs play on the North side, in an old neighborhood, where the apartment houses nearby have bleachers on their roofs to watch the ballgames. The White Sox play on the southside, home of big bad Leroy Brown, etc. The Cubs have a cult following despite their not having won in nearly a century. The White Sox have a much smaller nucleus of fans who only started coming out in force in 2005 during the pennant run. In prior years, the White Sox did not draw anywhere near the number of fans that the Cubs drew. Finally, the Cubs "color" announcer is Ron Santo, a former Cub and one of the biggest homers and cheerleaders in radio, but still somehow lovable. The White Sox "color" broadcaster is Ken Harrelson, former Red Sox and White Sox outfielder, who is as much of a homer as Santo, but is both caustic and annoying without being the least bit likeable. That's one outsider's view.

This is a very easy question to answer,

The Cubs (and their fans) are loyal and faithful to the game.
They are real baseball fans.

On the other hand, the whinny sux are bullies and loud and obnoxious and over-bearing. They ALWAYS cry about The Cubs.
The whinny sux simply cannot stand the fact The Cubs are Chicago's team. The Cubs are Chicago's team because people in Chicago love baseball.
Even though the whinny sux just won a world series a few years ago (for the first time in 88 years), all they know how to do is cry cry cry about The Cubs.

It all boils down to the whinny sux are jealous of The Cubs because The Cubs are a better team, and their fans are REAL and TRUE baseball fans.

The Cubs are cursed and the White Sox are not. hints why the Sox won a World Series 2 years ago and the cubs havent won one since early 1900's. Also the cubs are on the northside and the sox are on the southside or the other way around i dunno for sure.

The Cubs are lovable losers, the White Sox are whiners and bullies. That pretty much applies to their fans, too.

It is a north side and south side rivalry. many WI fans, after the Braves were sold opted for the chubs, I waited for the Brewers, which have been a bust, but my Dad is still a Chub's fan even though he took me to the brewer's games when they first started. Cub's fans are like Packer fan...no matter how bad they are you wanna see them do good. Look at the history behind each franchise. We lose so much that other cities actually cheer for us...go figure. Pack and Chubs forever!!!!
