Your ob will normally schedule a 20 wk u/s to check for any abnormalities in the pregnancy. It is at that appt you can find out the sex. Dr's office will schedule the "20 wk" appt anytime between 17-20 weeks. As long as the baby is sitting in a good position, you can find out the gender.

:) I was in your position about 10 weeks ago! I wanted to find some way to con my OB into doing an early u/s to find out the sex, but I was a good girl and waited until my 20 week appointment. It's best to wait, just to be sure. At 20 weeks the baby is developed enough for the tech to get a pretty good view and know for sure.

Good luck with the whole "patience" thing, heheh. It will be worth it!!! Only one more month, then you can shop like crazy!

Starting at week 18, sometimes 20, they can usually tell the gender of the baby when you go for an ultrasound. As for the shopping though, my best advice is not to do too much of it for now. I always thought it's best to wait for the baby shower and see what gifts you're gonna get. There's plenty of time left for shopping after that. Eventually, you're gonna end up with a lot of things you won't need.

Usually, your doctor will be more confident by about your 20th week. This is when the big sonogram is usually scheduled. There a lot of things you can buy that don't need to be sex determinate. Bottle racks, stroller, diapers and toiletries for the baby. Try to be patient. I can remember being anxious myself. It will come soon enough!

I wasn't able to find out until my second ultrasound; which was around 18-20 weeks. But it all depends on the baby's position; because the first time...the baby had her foot in the way and wouldn't move it. So you might be able to find out or you might not.

As early as 16 weeks, but for most it's around 20 weeks.

16 weeks is the earliest and even then its sketchy on weather it will be accurate or not.
Usually a dr will schedule the gender ultrasound at 18-22 weeks because the gender is more evident then...but can still be wrong.
At 18 weeks we were told "Girl" and at 33 weeks they said "oops thats a boy"...turns out boys testicles dont normally descend until around 22 weeks sometimes.
But we were accurately told girl with our daughter at 16 weeks.
