f your pet mice like to be out of thier cage - and mine did. What i used to do was simply put them back in the cage the instant the peed or pooed on my hand or anywhere outside of the cage for that fact.

This teaches the mice that peeing and pooing anywhere but the cage means that you go back in your cage and no more play time.

It takes a while for this concept to sink into thier heads, but mice and rats are pretty smart and eventually they will catch on. But as for now, stick with it and keep a lot of antibacterial soap around.

I had BOTH rats and mice for 13 years ..You cannot stop them from doing what comes naturally. They have no actual control over it, just love them and get used to it..sorry there is not a real answer

Lol theres no way you can stop them, just put a towel over you're hand. They don't know right from wrong in that department, I know it's really gross but hey they have to go somewhere. I don't know if it's the same as it is with Guinea pigs, but I know after alot of bonding when they have to go so maybe try getting to know them very well.

Mice and rats don't have any control over their bladders or bowels. When they reach 'critical mass' they excrete.
This happens if they're excited which probably happens when they're picked up.
There's nothing you can do except wash your hands afterwards or wear surgical gloves.

you incredibly would desire to take to the vets especially sharpish. the final rule for muddle trays is one consistent with cat plus one. in the experience that your cats are chuffed to flow exterior then this is okay, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it may take what we could see as a small factor, to disenchanted a cat. different than for any ailment she would have been pounced on/attacked and so on whilst doing her corporation exterior. this could make her afraid to do it exterior and because you may't be afflicted to freshen up after your cat's trays, she has no selection yet to flow the place she feels risk-free. Your excuse for not having muddle trays is selfish and irresponsible. what's worse, you're disciplining your unfavorable, previous and in all probability sick cat for something that's not her fault. I advise you come across a perfect, worrying, in charge abode on your cats. EDIT - GCSE's or not - you took on animals and you have a duty. It does not take long to scrub out some muddle trays in case you carry on good of it. you're saying you're purely abode for 2 hrs an afternoon - what rubbish. the place do you sleep then. Why not flow to mattress quarter-hour later daily and use the time to scrub the trays. in the experience that your different cats flow exterior then you definitely will purely have one to freshen up after won't you. end attempting to discover excuses to be irresponsible. and make confident your cat is going to the vet. do not purely depart it to somebody else. Do you think of your mom could positioned off taking you to the medical doctors purely through fact she had something else to do??

I've never had mice before but how long do you have them out before they poop and pee? Is it right when you take them out that they do that? If so it could be a sign of defense.

They may do that because they're nervous. If they get accustomed to gentle handling and learn that they won't be harmed, they might stop. Maybe. But rodents don't ever learn how to control these responses in the way that dogs and cats do.
