I saw it on Broadway when it first came out and loved it. I saw the movie when it came out (10 years later) and it annoyed the heck out of me. The characters just seemed like whiny, lazy, self-destructive brats who expect everyone else to take care of them. I just wanted to scream, "Get a f-ing job!" at the screen through the whole thing. I mean, really..."We're not gonna pay rent!" (???)Welcome to the world, you bum! Everyone has responsibilities. Anyway, its message just doesn't seem as relevant today.

I hate musicals, and when my friends made me watch Rent, at first I just kept thinking that it was cheesey and unrealistic. But then I actually started to get into it and now its one of my favorite movies. It is a bit weird, as most musicals are. i mean, you cant have people busting out in song at random times, where everyone knows the words, cordinates their movements and melody, and all that, without it being a little weird. And the Over The Moon thing is just screwy! lol

I wanted to toss the television out the top window. I wanted a refund for the rental. It was horrendous. I never watched anything more excruciating. All I could think is who lied about this movie being so great. A high person wouldn't want to watch that garbage. All I remember is them singing about mucho masturbation.

It's been playing on a movie channel I have - I tuned into one scene, watched for about ten minutes and turned the channel. I have no desire to watch anymore of that movie! So, thanks for the tip that it gets no better!
