I don't know of any stores that allow this, nor would they want to especially with bettas.
With bettas the male has to watch the eggs so the store would need to keep your male for a couple of weeks.

Beta's aren't expensive. Especially females. I would buy another small bowl and a female beta. That way you can separate them if they don't work out.

no store will do that you have to buy your own because the male will kill the female if it is not the right one so buy a few and put lots of plants in there so they can hide
