I just cut the trees down and the roots have killed my lawn...I want to plant new sod but I have to remove all the surface roots from the tree first. Please ONLY answer if you have experience with this or if you are a landscaper...Thanks

if they are to big to dig out you could always call a tree company in your area they will grind the stumps and surface roots (for a price of course) or you can rent stump grinding machine from a local rent-all equipment store they are about $100 a day

I also removed a poplar tree and the roots kept sprouting all over the lawn. I dug them out but it was hard to find them all until new ones sprouted, it was also a lot of work. I noticed the tree stump was also sending up shoots and the cambium layer was healthy and growing. I got the idea to pour gasoline just on the cambiun layer around the circumfrance of the tree. I used less than a cup of gasoline. This killed the roots and the stump. Bada bing, no more shoots coming up.

I am not a landscaper but I am a homeowner, and the only way to get rid of your tree roots is to dig them out and then fill in the holes. Good luck!

I removed a Poplar tree once and what I did was simply slit the grass and pull the roots out. When you put the grass back it grew in place.

Just wanted to clarify something for you: Roundup doesn't work from the roots...it is absorbed through the leaves of the plants you spray. When you spray it near your grass, if it falls on the bldes of grass, they will die. i had to learn that lesson the hard way :)
