Rule 11-3-5: "During a Try the defensive team can never score. When it gains possession, the ball is dead immediately."
(I'm assuming NFL rules here... in college, for instance, the defensive team would get two points.)

Let me add that in National Federation of High School Football rules which 48 states use, once the defense recovers a PAT the ball is whistled dead and the play is over. Remember this rule is for the extra point only.

Nope. The kicking team just doesnt get the PAT and they gotta kick off

In college ball the defending team would get TWO points.
I don't think they have that rule in the NFL

In NFL no but in college play they get two points(kinda like scoring a safety)

No, they can gain possession but they cannot score...its an NFL rule
