Just bought aan older home and noticed water in the floor vent where the air comes from. Would like to know how this happens and what can be done to eliminate the problem. Thank you.

If your furnace is running, you have a cracked heat exchanger. In addition to combustion water in your ducts, you are also filling your house up with carbon monoxide. Either that, or you have a humidifier that is going nuts.

Depends on how much you are talking about. I have seen gallons of water in the ventilation system due to the water table being so high around the house especially on flat areas. If this is a probem then you would have to install drain lines around the house and run them to a lower level of ground.

make sure the drain pan under the coil is not over flowing and that the drain line from the pan is properly installed with a trap right at the outlet this must have a vent on top of the trap.

unless there's a leaky pipe from somewhere, then there shouldn't be water there. This is where Legionnaire's disease came from but, it was in the air conditioning system, the mosquito's bred in the water laying in the system. It was settled in a manner that let water from humidity and Etc, sit. they picked up a bacteria that had settled in the water and spread it from there.

If the external drainage line from the air conditioner is blocked, this can cause it. But call a professional, you don't want to risk toxic mold!
