I was able to reset my ipod (the one with the video) and it works fine again, but it has been out of the box for a day. Should I return it? Or does this kind of crap happen a lot?

You must not have read anything I typed. I reset it and it is fine now, but should I return it due to the principle of it being a new product.

I think this is normal. The first time mine froze I didn't know what to do so I took it back to the apple store and the guy never said anything about exchanging it. I wouldn't say it happens a lot, but it's happened to me several times since and it doesn't ever seem to do any harm, other than annoy me. So don't bother returning it.

I would definitely return it and ask a technician to look at it. If you are near an Apple store ( check store.apple.com) they have technicians on duty most of the day and then you can take it in and they will do the work right there. Otherwise you probably need to return it to the company and be without any player for some time.

Apple guarantees their products for a year. I had a hardrive crash on mine six months after I got it, and they replaced it free of charge. If it keep acting up on you, return it. Be sure to keep any receipts and the box, but it isn't always necessary, because Apple has serial number on the back of each Ipod. Very big brother, but hey it helped me out!
