Put away a little money each week/month if you can afford it. Before long, you'll have that console your looking for.
I start saving up for the next console little by little as soon as I hear it's going to be released. You usually hear about them a year or so before they hit the streets. Then you pre-order it from the local game store, and you have plenty of time to save up for it.

buy second hand or see if you can trade one in. They tend to give you more instore credit than actual cash and also avoid the big names ( e.g Block Buster) cause they will give you the least amount. Some places offer a ´we´ll give you more than anyone for your games´deal. If so your best bet is to see if anyone will give you a better deal , then going back to the other store and try to get them to give you more money. Of course it won´t be much more but it all counts.

Well, look at your budget and look at what the new video game costs. If your budget doesn't allow for purchasing a new game, buy used, or even better, rent it.
I applaud you wanting to stay within your means.
