I was living at a home when I was younger and had a pet rabbit. I loved that rabbit.
One day the cook wanted to make rabbit for dinner and I volunteered to skin them all. Yumm it was good. The ironic thing was I had named my rabbit Stew, and we ate him fried. Again I say Yumm.
So to answer your question, yes I would.

No, I don't.
And it's not really a morality question. I just think I would lack the know-how to kill, dress and cook my dog all by myself on a desert island.
