NEVER did this with his "girlfriend" on the show???
How did the writers of the show get away with this behavior from the VERY "straight arrow" star character? What was the premise of that particular episode?
If you know me AT ALL, you will guess the name of the show. But do you also know the name of the episode?

That would be the "Matt's Love Story" episode of Gunsmoke. Matt had amnesia and fell in love with a widow played by Michael Learned.

Here's an interesting tidbit I just found out: "In the movie The Last Apache, we find out that as a result of this episode, Matt and Mike have a daughter named Beth." Have you seen that movie?

Thats GunSmoke, the episode is "Matt's Love Story." Matt's first TV kiss, not to Miss Kitty, but to Michael Learned.

Because Matt had amnesia in the episode, I think the writer (Ron Bishop) wanted to do something a little crazy.

Victor French plays the man who wounds Matt and causes his amnesia. He introduces himself, after being sent to kill Mike, as Favorite. Did you notice that Mike, in one scene, and then Matt in a later scene refers to him as Fortunate?
