A guy friend of mine just moved (maybe 2-3 months ago) to this new country and he's in our school now. I try to be nice to him,he's my friend, but he just won't stop talking about how much he misses all his friends back in Australia, showed me a pic of his ex in Australia, kids in Australia are soooo cool, Australia, Australia, Australia!
It's driving me nuts! He won't stop complaining about how "bad" it is here too, and having lived here a whie, it offends me.
What do I do?

i don't acually want to confront him because he's the kind that'll say, "JEEZ! I was KIDDING! Gosh! You take it too seriously!!" And cover it up. Then he'll start again.

He probably hasn't realised he's bugging you - just tell him!

He is just homesick. He probably didn't have any say on the move and he may even have a little bit of a culture shock.

Think of how you would feel if you moved to Australia next month. Maybe you should show him what you like to do best here, take him out with your friends, really include him. Pretty soon he will be making memories with you guys and he will talk less and less about his homeland.

If all else fails, you can take him to Outback Steakhouse, lol!

If you like this guy at all and consider him your friend then show him the good things about your town. Tell him about the history the people, the food and so on. He might like someone to show him around for a while, he might even end up liking this place of yours. He needs to feel at home, and his homesick be gentle with him. When he starts getting out, and begin familiar in his surroundings he might stop whining about his Australia. Or do something special with Australia as the theme- throw him a party!

like many of the others have said - he is homesick - give him time and you will find he will soon stop
maybe if you took an interest in what he is saying instead of it driving you nuts you may enjoy what he is talking about.
its a long stretch of the arm but why dont you both plan a trip out there - just so you can experience what he is going on about?

so what he's moved from oz if he thinks its so great why come wit h his olds if he's that keen on the colony maybe he will go back so some poor Brit might have a chance at the part-time job he needs to make his stay in "the old country" worth while otherwise use an old English phrase to tell him how you feel the second word is pronounced"off"

tell him that his bitching is annoying you and even offending you. in fact, since he loves Australia so much, you could try telling him to go back to Australia when he gets some money put together. that way, he won't complain much longer. also try changing the subject when he attempts to talk about his Australia experience.

It is possible he maybe homesick, hence why he keeps referring to home. Also you have to bear in mind the time of year.

You don't need to confront him, but there is nothing to stop you having a conversation with him asking why he moved to your country. Then you can respond with what you see as your country's good points, & maybe make him realise life ain't quite as bad as it seems.

I am sure your friend will appreciate your words.

Tell him about All the things that you miss, try to over do it. I live in Australia, there are a lot of foreigners here who always complain how much they miss the mother country. Do you actually secretly enjoy his cultural whining?

Have you noticed how many Aussies - despite their complaints about 'whinging Poms' - can't wait to get to the UK? Why do they insist on hanging around Earls Court and working as bar staff?

i think you need to tell him you understand he misses his country but that you are annoyed by his persistent going on about it and offence he causes you! ask him why he moved here and is it a good enough reason to stay!
