You are going to need a router (a device that allows multiple connections on a single internet connection)

You will also need a credit card to register. Even if you have an Xbox Live card.

Heres the offical connectivity guide.

If you want to try directly connecting a RJ45 (looks like a big phone plug) directly into your broadband modem and into your xbox 360 this "should" work fine :)

To go online, you pretty much need a broadband connection. If you have that, then you can go online. You would probably need to connect your 360 to a router to share out your broadband connection to the 360 and your PC. You can not just take a phone cord and plug it in as it is the wrong type of connection. 360 has two subscription levels. Gold and silver. Gold lets you play online with your games and send messages. Silver lets you do pretty much everything else except what I said gold would do. Gold is free for a month, and silver is free. If you want to download games off Live Arcade, you will need to buy them if you want the full versions. You won't be able to download them unless you buy the hard drive for your 360. Some are just too big for a memory card. Hope this helps.

Really only my personal opinion. The computer is not a
gamer automated, automatic device. The parts of a computer
HAVE to be assigned to be a game computer with the proper
ram, cards and audio/sim availibility. When you grow tired of
straining your computer to the last edge, maybe alqaeda can
get you a job. Serious, the gaming online is for leagues, sims,
competitions, prizes and awards and is struggling with the day
to day existence as a viable education based system. I love to
play xbox 360, and have 125 I made myself, distributed to
a new neighbors arcade studio business. They rock. Listen
hook up a good cd player and turn down the effects noise, and
join up with me to learn, and design better games, and gaming
with educational value! Really be careful, live connect online
is monitored by 91 nations around the world, think of cooking
spam, good treats right? Intelligent gamers organize some time to be a community member. Good gaming for 2007, blessings for your families and friends to you. http://www.videobusiness.com
