there are many , in fact any stress reliever or pain killer given in the right amount can tend Tobe a truth serum since it relaxes a person to the point they feel drowsy, and while half asleep most people tend to be open to tell the truth, even tho even sodium penathol is not effective on all people.

The truth is that there is no such thing as a "truth" serum.
If there were there would be no places like Guantanamo Bay, nor prolonged questioning of suspects in any event, since all govenments with any social reponsibility would have legitimised their use - how could they not if they would inevitably reveal the truth?
Many drugs have been tried, and none are reliable in all circumstances. Every single one relies on an establishment of rapport to be any way near effective, and none can be relied on with any certainty.

Sodium thiopental is a barbituate used in interrogations sometimes...supposedly it makes you more likely to tell the truth because barbiturates decrease higher brain functioning. Because lying is more complex than the truth, suppression of the higher cortical functions may lead to the uncovering of the "truth" since the "truth" would theoretically be less complex.

Someone with more knowledge on this than me is bound to answer, but I believe Sodium Pentathol is renowned for loosening the inhibitions and therefore the tongue. Have a look at the wiki link I attached for more info.

Hypnosis if applied properly can work just as well, but if i remember correctly 2 or 4% of people physically cannot be hypnotised full stop !
