They think if they have the vasectomy their manhood will be ruined. It is also a very painful procedure.

Hello =)
That seems like a very good question, and I have wondered that many times myself.
I have 2 very good friends who have done that, once they have decided that they wanted no more children.
In reality, it is a far less invasive procedure than "tubal ligation" is for a woman, and within 72 hours, they are usually "good to go" -- so to speak.
It's just another sexist relic, from times that should have gone past. Women are seen as the ones who have to deal with the babies, and thus, are the ones who are seen as the ones with the problem at hand. In reality, since men can father children from age 13-93, it really is more of a male problem.
I think that more OB/GYN clinics, urologists, and Planned Parenthood clinics should discuss this as a first line of defense, instead of waiting until women are forced, for various reasons, to insist upon "tubal ligation"....
Namaste, and Happy Holidays,
--Tom

Same argument for a male to say, "Why do women not get a hysterectomy?" if they do not want babies...well, that's sort of drastic since some vasectomies are reversable and hysterectomies are final...hmm, why don't we come up with some devices or medicines that would help both out in this?

It is still more common for the woman to bear responsibility for not getting pregnant - as for men not wanting to get a vasectomy - many may feel that it will affect their manhood - I would think that it would improve their love lives with no worry of impregnating somone.

yes, but they don't want anyone touching their little jewels. Heaven forbid someone knows they aren't "REAL MEN" any more! They'd rather their wives go through a 4 hour surgery under general anaesthetic( which can cause paralysis and death) than have someone play with their scrotum for 2 minutes, under local , in a doctor's office.
EDIT: For thosethat say a vascectomy is painful afterwards, you've been lied to. Its the tubal ligation that is painfull. my brother said that his vascectomy hurt less than having his handstitched up after he cut himself on a circular saw. but my tubal keptme in hospital for 2 days, and was more painful than when my gall bladder was removed.

Actually, with most of my friends and their husbands, the husbands are more than willing to do it. They know their wives have been through enough with pregnancy and childbirth, so they're willing to step up to the plate for permanent birth control. I think any really mature man would.

As Borat would say "Wh.aaa. t"
MC Hammer " Can't" cut "This"
Don't need to, it works right off-the-shelf so to speak.
They have expended all their energies getting to, then completing, the GOAL(!).. No more energy left for responsibility.

Because most don't care about anything except for sex.
They don't want to take responsibility for their actions.
If we forced them to take responsibility for thier actions there would be alot less, unwed, and fatherless babies.
I've got one because my wife and I don't have or want kids.

Embarrassment is one thing. Plus for those that I know who had it done were in pure agony for a few weeks afterwards.
