There certainly is -Solicitors are heavily regulated, you cannot call yourself a solicitor or hold yourself out as a solicitor unless you have been admitted to the roll of solicitors (governed by the Solicitors Act 1974) and have obtained a certificate from the Law Society stating that you have complied with the required training regulations. You do not necessarily have to have done a law degree (which is what you may be getting at?) as you can do a degree in another subject, followed by a law conversion course. Whether you have a law degree or have done the conversion course, all students then have to complete the legal practice course. Following that, they will have to work as a trainee solicitor for two years (plus pass other exams) before finally being admitted. In total it will take 6 years to qualify as a solicitor if you do a law degree, or 7 years if you do a different degree -i.e. It takes a long time and a lot of law studying!

The police are NOT required to study Law as they do not practice Law, they enforce it.
If you wish to be known as a doctor, you do not have to study medicine. A doctorate can be gained in a variety of subjects.
As for moronic. Under UK Law you need to study medicine to practice as a doctor and dispense medication.
A nurse needs only to study 'nursing' , this covers minimal medicine and is mainly geared to giving care to patients.
Lastly, 'avoid crimes that never happened'?
If a crime never happened then, and I may be wrong here, IT NEVER HAPPENED!
No crime, no suspects, no convictions. What is there for the police to do with something non-existant, or is there philosophy police? ''are you the tree that fell in the forest that never made a sound?'' - ''could you describe the noise you heard when one hand clapped?''
Sheesh - i think someones been on the falling down water too long!

In the U.S. most states do not require a law degree to become a "legal" Lawyer (Barrister). All they must do is passes the State Bar exam and a background test.... But then they become an officer of the court, and cannot challenge the law.... or the judge..

I have never come across any person anywhere in the world describing him or herself as a law. (There is, of course, an expression of "being a law to himself".) I presume that you are describing the police as being colloquially referred to as "the law". This is not a reference to the individual, but to the institution. The police are there to uphold the law. They are not entitled to describe themselves as lawyers. They are officers of the law, just as those operating within the court system are officers of the court. A distinction must be made here between the individual and the institution which that individual represents.

a lawyer is just about anyone who gives advice on matters of law. However, you need to be a member of The Law Society in order to call yourself a solicitor.
As to doctors; whilst it is true that you need to take a medical exam in order to become a doctor ...you do not need to PASS the exam..just sit it.
The police do not study law per se...they simple enforce the law as it stands. If you want to help the police then please beat yourself up.

you don]t necessarily haft to attend a law school to become a lawyer , a home study course could possible be enough,
But, you would have 2 1/2 strikes against you when you went to take your B,A,R, exam, the officials at the B,A,R, would really scuff you over as they want every one to attend a law school ,
you know, the old buddy system, the courts would not give you break period , the old buddy system again, so my advice is at least go to a recognized law school,

I think I missed the question in your statement, but in the US, people who want to become lawyers are required to pass the bar exam and to pass the bar exam you must attend law school. Our law enforcement officials are not required to study law in order to hold an enforcement position. They are required to have law enforcement training though.

In the US, lawyers are not such until they pass the bar exam. Our college system does have a "criminal justice" major that people can study. This does not mean that it teaches them how to commit the perfect crime, it means that it teaches them how to catch the morons who think they are committing the perfect crime.

How thick and moronic can you get not to be able to ask a question (or make a statement) that has some modicum of sense?
