I used to have an iguana and he layed in him water bowl a lot. And he always left a big surprise for me (not that it was still a surprize after several weeks). Eventually i realized that iganas were not for me (even though im good at taking care of animals). I mean that thing scratches the crap out of you when you hold it. Which the pet store told me i needed to hold it a lot. Talk about bloody arm. Ouch.

Iguanas are tropical animals. They require HIGH humidity levels. Upwards of 80%. It helps them to shed skin, prevent respiratory infections, and with elimination (bowel movements).
I would recommend two bowls. One small, for drinking, and the other for elimination & soaking. I use a large kitty litter pan for the soaking. My iguana is "potty trained" to only go in the litter pan, so cage clean up is easier. Make sure you wash the pan daily with 10% bleach solution, then rinse well.

They'll do this when they have to poo, offer him a tub big enough to soak in..they like that. Warm water helps too.
