Sorry geuss I should have been specific. I am not ignorant to the fact that unemployed is aother word for out of work. it was a crossword question with only three or four spaces.It is a question for a friend.NOT myself. Thanks for the humour and the logical answers but I am looking for something a little more specific or slang.

If you are really looking for euphemisms, some like the phrase "under employed" but "between engagements" works, as does "considering my options." Any way you look at it, you would be "paycheck impaired" or "salary challenged."

Unemplyment insurance is abbreviated UI, but the U by itself would not mean unemployed.
