I hear a lot about this. Was it just the earlier units or are later model units effected too?
Is this just a case of people putting their XBox's in place's with no breathing room?

I keep my 360 very well ventilated, and I haven't had any problems with it yet (I've had it since launch.)

yes i heard about this i just bought a 360 and my friendtold me his overheated i dont know if it is effected with old models or the later ones too but you can by a fan for about 20 bucks in best buy circuit city and stuff and it will make a big difference because it helps mine. It doesnt really throw out hot air anymore it is mostly warm air like any otrher game console

We just got one for our kids.

We stood on its end on the rug and pushed it into the corner with the power supply. With the door to the room closed it got very hot in the room - probably about 80? After 4 hours of play it seemed to shut down - we suspect from overheating.

Moved it to horizontal, placed it on hard surface away from the corner and they played it the entire next day without a problem.

So to answer you question - it does seem to be an issue of where you place it. If it is in the open with lots of room to breath I think you will be fine.

I just bought the 360 for my husband and the salesperson recommeded buying the additonal fan (that is offered separate of course). I passed until I could do more research, but until then we are putting it on top of the dresser with air moving all around

I've got a new 360 and haven't had any problems with it. the fan is a little noisy... probably that's why it hasn't overheated.
