Last year I signed a bond for someone. Since then i don't talk to that person anymore. I didn't put up my car or house or anything, I just signed my name, paid the cash & got him out. He didn't ever go to court, & now the bondsman is saying i'm responsible. what exactly can they do to me??

Yes, you're legally responsible for the amount of the bond you signed for but you are not responsible for finding this person or dragging them into court, although that might be to your advantage. You are also not legally implicated in his crime(s) or guilty of fraud unless it can be proven that you knew ahead of time he was going to run and agreed to sign to post bond anyway.

In the future be very careful before signing anything - let this be your last expensive lesson.

Signing a bond means you will be responsible for seeing to it your "friend" comes to court, or you are responsilbe for the amount for the bond.
The bondsman can come after you legally for "defrauding an insurance company". You signed saying you would make sure they guy showed up, and he didn't.
Find him or be prepared to pay that bond.

you are legally responsible for what ever the amount of the bond is, and you will be forced to pay such bond ,unless, you bring the person into custody of the sheriffs dept, and renounce your bond pledge, that is why bondsmen hire bounty hunters to go after people who skipped out on bond.,if you are incapable of physically bringing this person into custody, you may be able to persuade the bondsman to make the arrest when you locate them, it would save you the bond money

You better help them find this guy, it is just like cosigning on a loan. If the bail bondsman faces the risk of losing the money he invested in this person, he will certainly hold you liable as you are the cosigner on this.
