I'm writing a story but I dont know what to do. I haven't really started yet because I'll get all these ideas in my head all at once that dont go together. None of my friends are into the genre I'm wanting to write so I'm asking abroad. In a fantasy story, what would you like to see? More action? More Magic? More mysterious strangers? Dragons? Knights? Please let me know.

I'm more interested in what people want to see when they read rather than writing tips. Please let me know what you're missing when you read.

Plots work like this:

There's a problem
Problem gets worse and worse and worse, and when it finally seems like it's going to get better, it gets ever worse
Resolution

All stories, regardless of genre work like this.

Now, go online and see the requirements for science fiction/fantasy genres and maybe read a fantasy bestseller to see what made it so good.

Once you're researched that, just write. Once you've identified your problem, just throw roadblocks in the way preventing the protagonist from solving the problem. Make it seem as if he will fail and find some way for him to save the day, or not, it's your choice.

There are plenty of books on plot that will help you formulate yours. Just remember to start the story when the excitement begins and save all the backstory for flashbacks, etc.

Do enough research on the topic that you're writing about before your write your story because it will come off as fake and you want your readers to imagine what they're reading is real.

Make sure the dialogue and lingo fits

Make sure you create enough suspense to keep the reader turning the page. This is done through things like foreshadowing.

Literary novels are boring. Make sure your paragraphs are broken up every now and again with some dialogue or action. Nothing turns a reader off more than to open a book with nothing but paragraph after paragraph. ZZZZZZZ.

Make sure you keep abreast of trends so you won't waste your time writing a story that's been written already. That could suck really bad.

above all else, write. Even if it's a page a day. Just keep at it. Midway, you'll probably think your story sucks and will want to put it down - DON'T DO THIS!!! Keep writing.

GOOD LUCK.

In a fantasy story I think all of the things that you mentioned are important. It's good that you have all these ideas. At least you aren't saying that you have writers block. The best thing to do is to sit down and start writing your ideas down. Keep writing. Once you have written everything down you'll be able to weed out what you don't want in there.

My suggestion to you is to begin by writing your ideas into short stories. This will give you practice at writing and you will be able to monitor and explore your writing style better.

Don't stop coming up with ideas. As a writer you will always need more ideas. Just begin with a few short stories and expand from there.

Best of luck.

I love fantasy stories and I would say more of all...really depends on the story though. You should start with what you have first, even if it isn't in story form...just writing down all of your ideas. It will help you to remember them all, piece them together, and actually develop your ideas further.

Take the character named Mayella in the story "To Kill a Mockingbird" and have her educate the town where she lived about respecting different races of people. Twenty cities around the USA, including New Haven and Bridgeport CT, are going to be discussing this book and your story could make you famous.

You're going to have to just start writing. Like cooking, I can't tell you whether you need more salt, or more pepper, or less of each. You'll have to use your artistic judgement as to what the story needs as you go along, just like you would with a recipe. There are some writer support groups on the internet that might be able to critique what you write as you write. But you got to get it on paper first. I know the paper avoidance thing; I have done it personally. Swimming around with it in your head is one thing. Getting it on paper is another. In my experience, stories tend to develop their own flow and characters start to "articulate" what needs to happen next. So just "listen" to them as you write and go with the flow.

You are mentioning the "ingredients" to make a good story. I think that the key to mix them and write a really good one is to focus on a specific time or era, learn as much as you could (how they dress, what they eat, tools they had, etc., etc.,) and then start writing. Definitely it would be interesting.

I can't tell you how to write... Goodness knows you have plenty of advice here.

Remeber this: You will begin to lose your imagination if you don't use it! All the advice in the world will not help you if, you lose your imagination.

Start writing and don't worry about structure or what's normal. When you have an inspired thought, act on it!

I'd like to see a sexy warrior girl and some main character death. The more dead main characters the better (keeps people guessing)
