I think no one needs Randy. He's way too old as is evident with his poor showing last season where he had a 5.00 ERA.
Time for him to hang up the jersey and call it a career in my opinion.
Congrats on winning the World Series a few years back ;)

It seems likely that he will wear a D-backs uniform this year. He isnt happy in NY, he maintains his home in Arizona and would have to approve any deal as he has a no trade clause. Read between the lines...the Yankees wouldnt even talk about the possibility unless they had a conversation with Randy or his agent before going public. They wont get much in return, the biggest part of the deal will be salary relief for the Yankees simply because Randy wants out and they have so much as said they may not have a spot in the rotation for him ,do you think he would be happy coming out of the pen?....me neither. Also the fact that Zito has yet to ink a deal should get people thinking that the yankees may some how be involved, they have been quiet this offseason and they dumped Sheffields salary and now maybe (probably) Randy Johnsons as well. That is a lot of salary cleared to ink a huge deal for someone. My money is on either Zito or Clemens and Johnson gets to go be home with his family. Makes sense doesnt it.

I think the Yankees should keep Johnson, it seems only fair to me. About time they had somebody totally useless on the payroll. As a Red Sox and Mets fan I can dream. So keep all your young prospects down on the farm and let the Yankees deal with the aging Johnson. It would be a bad deal to take Johnson, just bailing out the Yanks mess.

I'm surprised by the yankees stance so far this season...they've been sitting tight and watching the Red Sox throw around all the money. Now they're talking about getting Rid of Johnson...which further shows that they seem to have changed the way they operate. I think there's a very good chance that Randy will go back to AZ, but they shouldn't give the yankees TOO much....because I think the sun close to setting on Johnson's career and young talent is valuable.

I don't think that the Yanks need Randy that much. They have Mike Mussina, Andy Pettitte, Chien Ming Wang and Kei Igawa in their rotation, anyway. I also read on MLB.com that it's been speculated that if the Yanks do decide to 'send' Randy to the D-backs, they'll join the bidding for Barry Zito. So far, no agreement has been reached between the D-backs and the Yanks.

Randy doesn't have the velocity or bite on his slider he once had. Teams have been able to light him up the last few years and I think that will be the same thing that will happen this year. He might give you a 4.30 ERA or so, but he won't have as many strikeouts, and I don't think he will be worth the price for what he will have to offer. I think he should just retire and face the fact that he no longer is an elite pitcher, or the pitcher he once was here in Seattle, and with the Astros, and Diamondbacks.

Its a great move for the Yankees. They get rid of another aging pitcher from their staff and hopefully dump all of his salary. Since its a trade hopefully the Yanks will get some young pitching help in return to bolster the farm system. It will also free up some 16million dollars that's enough to get in the Zito sweepstakes. Arizona gets one of their heroes back in their uniform to get his 300th game and retire a Diamondback. Everybody wins.

We never needed Randy, he is too damn old. It was a dumb move to get him to begin with! He is old and the time that they should have gotten him was in 2001 or 2002 when he won the series for AZ and was much younger and healthier! Why do you think Curt Shilling was traded around the same time? He was young and healthy!
Another thing I disagree with is that the Yankees traded Soriano for A-Hog (A-Rod). It seems like they never learn!

Ok Im going to take the high road on this one, I realize that at ONE TIME he was a FEARED pitcher and I truley believe that he had a VERY DIFFICULT time living up to the expectations of the Media driven sports city that IS the best city in the WORLD.....That being said I think that this would be the best thing for all involved........ BEST OF LUCK R.J.

I think he should go back there. Obviously New York isn't working for him. He needs to be a in a hot state year round and have the comfort of a small media team. He was uncomfortable from the get go in New York and he hasn't pitched his best and his era being 5.00 is evidence of that.
