I found the cost of the IMA battery to be $4500-$6000 to replace. There is also a small engine battery which is about $100 to replace. My question now is does anyone know the history of the IMA batteries needing replaced?

^ Ok that didnt answer their question....It needs to be replaced every 8 years or 80,000 miles. One of my classes in college had to do with alternative fuels and hybrids and the civic/insight/accord and prius were talked about.

The new Civic Hybrid`s rechargeable batteries, supplied by Sanyo, Have a 25% increase in energy density. The vehicle uses 132 cells to store up to 158 volts of energy--up from 144 volts in the previous version. In both the 2005 and 2006 models, the batteries take up 1.6 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seats, which means the rear seats can`t split and fold down as in the other Civic models.

The IMA battery does not have service interval and is expected to last forever, Honda has a 10 year unlimited mileage warranty on the battery should you have any ttrouble
