Whenever I try to open The Sims 2, it gets to the opening screen, and will be on the last thing(after dechlorinating car pools, etc.) and a message will pop up that says "The application has crashed, application will now crash." How can I fix this so that I can play my game? Please help me.

I'd follow through with the spyware and virus scan. Go google a program called End it all. It ends unnecessary processes that prevents installs from properly installing. After uninstalling and scanning, run that program and then install again. It should work. If not it's your computer. Try going here: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest to see if your computer is able to run it.

Have you updated all your drivers, video card, memory and all that stuff? You just might not be compatible with the game.
