I presume your goldfish is in an outside pool? If so it is a natural thing for fish not to feed during the cold weather and will only eat perhaps once or twice during the cold period. If your goldfish is in an indoor tank/aquarium then there cannot be an explanation for its refusal to eat. It is common knowledge that certain species of fish refuse to eat and choose to die if they are unhappy/stressed. Angelfish are notoriously difficult to keep happy and do indeed choose to die and will not eat.
I have 11 years experience of fresh water fish.

I can't understand why the goldfish doesn't eat the tree. I didn't know that they could sit down either.

It does not desire the tree as food. It desires the tree as company. Your goldfish is lonely. And, your goldfish is starving for "touch". It rubs up against the tree for "touch". Without "touching", all animals will get sick and die. Could you get it another goldfish to be its friend?

i agree, maybe you should get it mor fish to swim with. If i was always lonely, i wouldn want to eat either and i would be so bore Id just want to "sit" on a tree too.

He could be sheltering under the tree from the tank lights, or hiding away from his tankmates.

WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS WATCHING THE GOLDFISH? MAYBE IF YOU STOPPED WATCHING IT, IT WOULD EAT. THE POOR THING IS GETTING A COMPLEX. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOME BIG GIANT WATCHED YOU ALL THE TIME?
