How can I get rid of static electricity in my new carpet?

There is a strong possibility that your air is too dry. It's not uncommon in the winter for the humidity in houses to get quite low which really helps increase static electricty. Try adding some humidity by putting a tea kettle or pot on low boil on the stove. If it helps, then strongly consider getting a humidifier, even a stand alone unit. For this purpose, many have a whole house humidifier attached to their furnace. Good Luck.

Try a product called Static Guard. Works great on everything from clothes to carpets.

I have never tried it but maybe diluting some fabric softener with water and spritzing the carpet.
Not sure though...
