Do you think there is always a choice? For instance, when you loose your sanity, do you have a choice at some point and decide to let go? Or, in case of an addiction, do you make the choice at some point, to give in to your addiction.
Or, like the Natalie Portman character mentions in "Closer", is there a point when you are about to fall in love, where you can resist it or give yourself to that feeling?

It is not the actual point that you make the choice that you are at a crossroads, but in all the decisions that you made to get to that point is where you had choices to go in different directions.

In reference to losing your sanity..do you choose to lose it? No, but how many things did one allow to happen to build up to the point of losing their mind? That is the true question.

Falling in love...can you resist it? Yes, if you have sat down and thought about all the pros and cons of being with that person will effect your life. Everything good to you is not good for you.

I think our behaviors and choices are really the result of a complex mixture of genes, environment and human choices. Depending on the stage and type of mental illness a person could give in and live with their illness without resistance. This choice may be necessary and healthy for the person. Maybe mental illness and love are similar in this sense. They could be resisted or not, but what are the consequences of resistance or acceptance? Choices, I think are not the result of a single crossroad but the result of many influences in our life. The ability to change can depend on the person's will and experience.

Most often, yes. It is known that any type of psychological therapy requires personal will to make it work. Same with personal development. However, the more you wait, the harder it usually gets (e.g., at a very late stage of addiction).

I believe that with love, one has a will and a choice but sometimes certain rewards and motivations (that can be subtle and not understood at MANY times) outweigh and overcome one's personal will to resist.

Everything is a choice on how we react to a situation. We have to choose to give up or not give up an addiction no one can do it for us. We chose to be born in this material world. Only one fourth of the souls come here.(the less intelligent ones) We are the only ones who can make the decision to get out of here. We have to get the knowledge for the process but we have to choose. go to krishnaculture. for details. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada for all details of the purpose of human life and one can understand all of our choices. What do you choose suffering and illusion or reality and bliss?

With the common definition of love, it's easy to "fall in" and "fall out"; but for the really good and lasting thing, a careful choice and commitment must be there.
