I think most people here got it right.

Jack is a very common name in the english language like John is..
also variants / versions of jack & john are used throughout europe..

the french word for 'jack' is 'jacques' & for 'john' it is 'jean' . if u notice both 'jacques' and 'jean' are used a lot in french movies, the way jack and john are used in english/american movies.

There is always a pre infatuation with a particular name which is considered as attractive / hot for a man /woman's role in a hollywood movie..

but this trend can be seen throughout the world.
you gotto accept tht some names are just way too common ;)

Jack is a common name and that's part of the reason it's used often in movies. Another explanation is because it makes it easy for the audience to relate to someone in a film if their name is common and generic. It helps the audience to focus on the plot and storyline if they aren't trying to remember an exotic name.

Jack's a common name in real life, so it's a common one in movies too.
Besides, it's a good name. Real simple, and yet somehow cozy and elegant.
