no, I think they're cute, ONLY as long as its something the child wants to do, and NOT because their parents are forcing them to do it

I think pageants are a horrible idea. The whole idea is to be judged on beauty not on how much of a role model a person can be. Take for example the new Miss U.S.A., pictures of her surfaced with her kissing another pageant contestant and dancing on tables.

Pageants judge the wrong criteria. A title like Miss Alabama, USA, American, Universe should be awarded to women with stong morals and decent code of conduct; not a slim waist and large bust.

Pageants-okay I really don't like pageants because most of the time, and I mean most of the time the girls are all shallow. But pageants for boys, I really don't like the idea of them. However if they are for scholarships and skip the whole swim suit part, then I guess they are above dumb. But most of the time it depends on the people who are in it.

Pageants for kids (especially girls that age) are not only dumb, I think they expose kids to people that they really shouldn't be around. I find it inconceivable that there isn't an element of pedophilia present in an event that takes kids in third grade and younger, puts them in mini-size evening gowns and swimsuits, has them strut their stuff on a runway, and generally makes them look and act as if they were ten years older. I work with about a half-dozen people who enter their kids in these things, and I seen a lot of pictures (believe me, it's unavoidable), and these things just do not seem as pure and innocent as their supporters would have you believe. I don't understand what these parents are thinking...whether they are just naive, they get attracted by the promise of scholarships and other prizes, or if they are just pushy stage-parent wannabees who are lured by the prospect of having their kid seen by representatives of a modelling or talent agency. Whatever, I don't think these things are healthy at all...what these things do train our kids to be attention-seeking eye candy with no substance under that outer layer of sizzle.

yes- it teaches your children to be superficial and makes them feel as though beauty is the most important trait one can have.

Your children are going to have enough issues with self esteem and competition when they are in school. Why do you want to add even more of an emphasis on beauty?

Take the thousands of dollars you would have spent on pageants and put it in a college fund.

for 18 year olds...yes. from ages 3 to like 9 it's cute. 12-14 it's okay but any older it's dumb and almost immature.

No pageants are not dumb. They are actually fun and you win money. Anyone who thinks its for perverts are actually perverts themselves because all they are thinking about is $ex so obviously it's saying something.

Yes, I do. One of my girls has actually been in one and is preparing for another one. She loves them. The one benefit I do see is the ability to speak or perform in front of a large group of individuals. Very expensive and time consuming, but it keeps her out of other trouble.
