It has been suggested to me that it could have been a native rat as I live near the bush, but the cord was not gnawed it was sliced. Has anyone else every experienced anything like this?

It is highly possibly that it was a native rat as i have had a lot of experience with them chewing through wire.
I had a big bird aviary where i would breeed a lot of differant australian finches and parrots. After losing a few birds to rats, I concreted the floor and double wired the aviary.
Within a month I went from having 60 birds to 3 birds, the rats would chew through the wire in an instant.
I lost a few rat traps too, the bg wooden ones would just dissapear out of my yard, I started tying them to things and cought a few big rats but still many seemed to get out of the traps.

Have another good look at the phone cord. If it is old it might look like it was sliced but it could have just been really stiff and snapped. Just check everything out to give yourself peace of mind. You should then be able to give yourself a proper explanation, don't let your imagination take over. But don't ignore your intuition.

I'm guessing that while moving or making the bed, the leg of the bed was set on top of the cord. You never noticed it until it cut through the cord and the cord became separated from the other part.

Calling the police is impossible because your telephone cord was sliced... I would ignore it for right now, but if something else strange happens notify the authorities.

A rodent, mouse or rat. The phone line is so weak, they wouldn't need to knaw on it.

look around u and u'll get a logic how it happened. could be because it got caught in something like a chest or a bed drawer.. it;s not supernatural basically...
