i woke up this morning, and found that my mailbox had been smashed up by which may have been a baseball bat. also, one of our front lights got broken. Furthermore (this may not be related, and is not as serious), one of our flowers got dug out.. b*tch stole that too.

called the police, they filed a report, but nothing else. anything i can do? if not, what can i do to prevent this from happening again?

my room is upstairs, and im afraid i cannot reach him in time.

if a camera does catch the villain, will it show his face well enough to identify him?

Get a wireless, night vision camera for under 100 ~ 109 bucks at walmart. you can focus it from inside your house facing the mailbox. hook it up to your vcr. No broken bat, no broken mailbox, hopefully the vandal getting caught in video. I am sure, the investment in the camera will be paid off, courtesy of the (accused/convicted) vandal.

My father had this problem until he used good ole' ingenuity to solve it. His mailbox was hit and ruined every time he replaced it.

He put a 3" steel pole directly next to his mailbox. Then he painted the bottom to match the post and painted the top to match the mailbox.

A week later around 3am "BOOOOINGGGGGGG".

The next morning, a small dent in the front of the mailbox and a broken bat was lying in the road.

Funny - the mailbox hasn't had a problem since!

There isn't anything that you can do. Unfortunately there are people out there who are just waiting to ruin what you have worked hard to put together. Unless you catch them doing it you can't really prove who did it. You can make a false mailbox that is poured full of concrete and put that up at night. If they go by fast enough when the ball bat makes contact it'll shatter their elbow joint. Then you'll know who did it.

You could install security cameras. You can also get a hardened plastic mailbox that is smashproof. Other than that, let the neighbors know what's happened so they can be on the lookout for anything suspicious.

Motion lighting is very effective. Consider starting a neighborhood watch program. Talk to the local police station about what it takes to set one up.

not much you can do if you don't know who did it. Did you give the police any idea on possible suspects. my only advice is to have the front yard well lit at night so you can see if there is any activity going on out there.

fix the problem, put you some cameras out there and record. you will eventually catch the pricks who is destroying your property. you have evidence, you will catch them.
