Ever since I was little Ive always wanted to play the drums, an I still do. But I used to play piano and quit that because I didnt want to practice (my parents forced that all on me). Then about 2 years ago I took guitar and that went well, but I got very lazy and didnt feel like practicing. Now Im really considering taking up drums but Im afraid Ill buy the whole thing and play for a week and get bored. I really want to play an instrument but Im not motivated. Any advice? Thanks.

If you are going to play any instrument, you have to be dedicated and practice alot. I know practicing can be monotonous and boring, but all of your good musicians do it. Getting self-motivated is hard. You might want to try and get together with a friend or two who are into music. Maybe you can help motivate each other. Also, take drum lessons at a music store. Being around other people may help you practice more than just being by yourself. And if all this doesn't help, go talk to someone who works at a music store and see if they can come up with an answer for you. If you really want to play, chase your dream.

I think drums is a bad choice if you get lazy quickly and are unmotivated. Drums takes a lot of practice, it's not easy keeping several rhythms going at once. I say keep practicing guitar, because it's such a great instrument, just find songs you like and practice them.

If you are unmotivated, then no musical instrument will be right for you. Instruments take practice, practice, practice. Even great drummers practice for hours a day.

Yes. Don't. All musical instruments require years of dedication. Unless you just want to jam around on them in your house where no one can hear, don't take them up. You'll end up inflicting that horror on some other poor people who DO have the dedication to be real musicians.
