How do you end a friendship?

I was really good friends with this woman for about 2 years. Well, I hadn't seen her in about 6 months and she said she really missed me and wanted me to come visit her. I actually had other plans but she really insisted I come and I did want to see her so I went. Anyway, when we met I was going through a really hard time in my life and was pretty depressed. She had always been really kind towards me and protective. Well, now I'm doing much better but this time when I went to see her she was being really critical and pointing out all my flaws. It really started to piss me off because she's not perfect either but I don't point out all the things that are wrong with her. I believe in lifting people up. Anyway, I want to end the friendship but I don't know how. Should I tell her or just stop taking her calls? I'm kind of sad about it but actually more pissed off because a real friend accepts you as you, don't you think?

If you are really good friends, I think you should talk to her. Just ignoring her because of one bad incident is just as offensive as overtly pointing out flaws. I think it's good that you want to lift people up, but some people also want friends to be honest and able to accept constructive criticism. It is your choice, of course, but I think you ought to just talk it over and not hold a grudge.

If you actually care about the woman, and think this most recent behavior is not what she is really like, then tell her how her behavior made you feel... and see if the relationship can be salvaged. Maybe SHE was depressed and going through stuff and just was "not herself".
On the other hand, maybe you only liked her before because you WERE so needy. Or maybe, as seems likely, she only wants needy friends because then she can feel superior and magnanimous. In that case, don't waste the time and effort.
The easiest and least painful way is to just ease out of a relationship: don't talk on the phone, don't return messages, and if you accidentally pick up and she asks you to see her, always be "busy".
A real friend not only accepts you, but LIKES you, and wants to see you happy and doing well. That's why you're friends!

Just dont contact her. If she asks you what the deal is just be honest and tell her you need to be around positive people right now and that last time you were with her all she did was criticize you and bring you down. Tell her she didnt use to be that way and you enjoyed the friendship up until that visit.

Friends arent supposed to put you down. Don't stop taking her calls though, she might think your dead or something. You don't want to hurt her feelings either so just tell her that you don't want to see her anymore because you think your friendships changing. If shes smart she should get the point...But if she says sorry and won't put you down anymore, then your friendships still good.

of course a real friend like you because of you but you know some people do that because there going thru a rough time so they point out flaws because it makes them feel better you should talk to her and if things don't work out then I guess you have to tell her you don't want to be friends anymore

Ignore her calls, just stop talking to her, and if she ever sees you out and asks you why, just tell her you never got them, or you changed your number, and give her a false number. She'll get the point.

You could tell her shes bugging you with all the critism. Tell her your feelings toward the situation, she'll probably understand.
