nearly 11 pounds? i know i sound stupid but i cannot work it out!!!

Comes out how? When you convert from kgs? Cos then it is 10.9lbs (nearly 11), rather than 10lb 9oz.

There are not 10 ounces in a pound, there are 16, otherwise it would be equivalent.
