Just wondering your thoughts. By the way, I am not advocating macho for either sex. It just seems as if a female does it, it is considered good. If a male does it, it is bad. Why?

its because women are said to be the weaker vessel and a man to be the stronger vessel.so today women are becoming tougher in society and men are becoming the weaker one. for a man to act macho when we are already portrayed to be macho its just to much marchioness and it becomes bad in a since. men are already macho in nature to show it off is a turn off to most women. in a since your becoming to cocky. and other men see that as a threat. because you could be using that marchioness in the wrong way.

You're going to need to provide a specific example of what you're talking about because I really don't know what on earth you could possibly mean by this stereotype.

It's okay for anybody to act in whatever way they like as long as they do not infringe upon someone else's rights.

Who said it's okay for one gender and not another... and exactly what do you mean when you say macho? Everyone's perception of that is different...and I don't get what you mean when you ask if it's okay for a woman to act that way.

Because this is a patriarchical (sp?) society where male traits are generally valued more than female traits. So a female who takes on male traits increases her value in the eyes of patriarchy, while a male who takes on female traits decreases his value. It sux, I don't agree or like it, I'm just reporting on what I see.

It's not ok, people are just less likely to address it. I'm a lesbian, and believe me, I've met my share of female chauvinistic bastards.
