welll they can if they go to the right country, like South Africa....but in the US it is because the c.u.n.t.s who run the country are selfish and think they know what marrage is suposed to be like.
therfor preventing two people who love each other from becoming one legaly. but who says that you need to be married in a church, just go find a willing pastor and get him to sign the marrage certificate. my dads did that, sort of. and then they got married in
South Africa...again....i dont understand them sometimes *shakes head*

It depends.. ummm in fact they CAN marry in certain places like Canada, and in Massachusetts state in the US and in some countries of Europe..

I should say that people who disagree with gay marriage are big time bigots..in a free world , everyone has the right to live a dignified life & all people whether gay or straight, black or white, asian or hispanic ARE ENTITLED TO THE SAME RIGHTS INCLUDING THOSE OF MARRIAGE...

any sane person can realize this !!!

Marriage is a complicated social construct, defined by law and custom. Laws and customs can change, but it takes a long time and a lot of work, like moving any awkward heavy object. It's hard, working against fear, some people are against gay marriage because they are afraid that it will incur the wrath of their god on the entire population. This attitude is changing in some places, thank Goddess.

What people fail to realize is that we can and do marry all the time all over the US.

A LOT of churches will perform gay marriages.

The problem is that the government refuses to recognize them. This is clearly favoring one religion over others and therefore is a violation of the constitution.
