Always stay at angle to the goal and person you're defending. A slide tackle is always useful, but don't try to do this unless you're sure you can do it legally, otherwise you might end up with a yellow or possiblly a red card. Never let the defender get to far back, before finally gong to attack them, try and keep them as far away from the goal as possible, and if you're past that point keep pushing them to the side, eventually they'll knock the ball out of the lines and it will come into your possesion.

the best way is to take control... angle your body so you are faceing in the direction you want the player to go... DO NOT STAB... move with the player making sure you are staying between him and the goal, listening to your teammates calling out help and directive calls, and continuing to channel the player to a side... it is also advisable to when learning and practicing to have your hand either tied or hold them behind your back so you don't get into a habit of using them and getting alot of penalties.. using your body and not your hands is key... always keep your feet moving, and always stay up on your toes. the longer you are defedning the player the more you can start moving closer going in for th challenge... patience is the most important... and the timing of your challenge is key... do not challege the ball when it is away from the player this is when you are most suspeptable to being beat... the best time is as the player foot has just touched it after a dribble, almost as fast as you can as the ball is leaving his foot... also always stab with the foot that is the lead foot in the direction you are going. and lastly when you challenge... go in with your whole leg and not just your foot...

If you're looking for formations, I prefer the 4-4-2. It's good for defending and running back the other way for scoring. If you're looking on just defending, play the ball and not the player. You'll get burned every time if you play the player. Give him the first step and just follow him. Wait for him to make the mistake. Don't try and poke steal the ball or they'll be on the attack.

Always let the ball handler make the move first, and wait for a mistake or another oppurtunity to take the ball away from him. Also, if you are running with the ball handler, give very small tugs on his jersey, nothing to big (like pulling him backwards) but just enough to give yourself an advantage.

well the most important thing is keep a space bet ween you and the attacker let him come to you dont go running towards him when he makes his move BAM you take the ball from him
and one thing that works a lot is slid tackle and i dont mean slide tackle him from behind,NO, you ll get sent off you should come from the side and aim at the ball.
Hope it works out for you

when ur opponent has the ball look at him/her and dont run towards the player, run backwards until he makes his move. its harder on an offenseive player to make a move when you are not reaching in... after a few steps back make a fake as if u were jumping at em and from there he will probably make his move..

My best answer is: watch Real Madrid games and keep an eye on Cannavaro. My second best is: keep the ball away from the goal.
