You will not qualify for any cash unless you have a child you however would most likely qualify for food stamps.

Can you try and get a grant due to low income? What about financial aid to cover your schooling. Some places you can get a BOG (Board of Governers) grant to cover the classes at least if you can't qualify for complete aid to save you some money. You live on your own and are not married so you only have to claim your income for either of those. Talk to a counsler and try working an extra day a week. I'm working 40 hours and taking 14 units with 2 kids and a husband. Keep at it. You will do it and be better for it!

I have a cousin who was a perfect example of when welfare is a good thing. She went back to school to become a teacher, and her husband was so threatened by the idea that she might make more money than he did that he divorced her. They had two children, one in college who was studying to become a doctor, and one in high school. She had been a stay-at-home mom, and lived in a town where jobs were few and far beetween. She also developed breast cancer. He refused to pay any kind of child support, including tuition for their daughter. Even though family members helped as much as they could, she was forced to go on welfare. Once she got a job and was able to graduate from school, she was able to not only become a "productive member of society," she was recognized as "Person of the Day" in her home state for her work as a crusader for breast cancer research.

When I went to college, I also paid my own way with no help from anyone. I worked full time and attended school full time. I almost died from lack of sleep (well, not literally), but I did it. And never once did I even CONSIDER going on welfare. Geez.

To answer your question, I sincerely doubt you would qualify for welfare and if you do, then the qualifications for it drastically need to be changed. You’re capable of working and paying your own way without depending on the taxpayers to support you. If you can’t handle it, then you might have to do what millions of other people do and go to school part time.

If you are truly independent, and you make so little then you should qualify for grants to help defer the cost of school.

As far as not working more - I have two degrees, working on a third - I am a 3/4 time student, and I work full time, oh and I am raising 4 children.

Don't say can't - say "I won't" work more. Buck up and deal - life ain't always easy.

You can't go on welfare if you are in school. Have you applied for financial aid? That would be the first step. You may also try to get a different job or work more hours, if you can.

There are no pros to going on welfare. Why would you want to live on just barely enough to survive? Why would you want the government to dictate the quality of your life? Get off your assets and make your own way through life. The very idea that you need welfare ought to be an insult to you. Welfare is for cowards-- for people too lazy or afraid to get out there and cut their own path.

That boyfriend ought to be helping you, too. If he really cared for you, he'd marry you and the two of you would face the challenges of life together. As long as you are with him and he's sticking his manly hydraulics into you for free, he is just using you and you are letting him. A man who porks a girl to whom he is not married is disrespecting her, plain and simple. Kick the bum and forge your own future.

I'm trying to figure out why you think you can go on welfare? You are capable of working, you are trainable, so where is the help needed here? You need to cut back on your expenses or work more hours and take longer to get your degree, like the rest of the real world does.
