I moved here from close to Chicago. Here is my take on this city.
I love it here. It's big enough that I can get whatever big city stuff I want, but still has a small town flair. San Antonio is "New Big", if there is such a phrase. 20 years ago it was a one horse town... sort of.
People are very friendly. To me, the crime is really low (I was a probation officer in Gary, Indiana before I came here), though people who grew up here think it's alot. I think it's a great place to raise a family. We have a zoo, Sea World, Fiesta Texas (Six Flags), The SPURS (athletes who you DO want as role models for your kids!), driving distance to the coast, a decent cost of living, affordable housing, and don't forget the Alamo!
On the downside, people here cannot drive. traffic jams when someone is changing a tire - on the other side of the highway! Don't go out if it's drizzling - just sit at home and watch the news.
I doubt that I'll ever move from here though. It is a great city.

I find the answers on here to be very absurd. Nothing to do in San Antonio, how funny. Sounds like someone is spoiled. Talk like them. How would that be? How do they talk?
The N.W. part of town is really a good part as is the North Central. It is a big place. Thousands of restaurants concerts at least twice a month. Broadway plays. Parties of all kinds. Several Fiestas. NBA franchise. Check with your local century 21 realtor or ERA realtor. There is a lot of positive about the place. For some reason, children on here are the kind that if you give them a million dollars and a candy bar, they will moan about the candybar.

San Antonio would be a great place. Homes are very affordable. Austin and Houston can be great places to live also but you would have to sacrifice a lot of wasted time commuting and that is something I am glad I don't have to live with. San Antonio is shopping mecca and there is always something new to see or do. Good luck.

I just moved to San Antonio 2 months ago. It was tough but we made it. We rented a Penske truck to bring all our stuff from Fresno, California. Before we moved though, we came 6 months before to investigate on where we can buy/build a new home. We loved the area of Stone Oak Parkway since the place is very beautiful, progressive and has all the amenities. Having stuff to do all depends on you and your husband. One will never be bored if one knows how to maximize one's time. There are places to do and visit here and if you get tired, all the other cities are a few hours drive away. Good luck and hope you have a smooth transition.

We lived in Houston for 8 years, and I never liked it (but I am originally from the east coast, so...). Through roaming around, I REALLY liked Austin- very progressive area for Texas, and beautiful. San Antonio is also quite charming.
Good luck.

San Antonio is good. Yes, Houston may be bigger but it is way more populated, the crime rate is alot higher, the traffic jams are horrific, and the city of Houston is POLLUTED!!! So for the person who thinks that Houston is better, I bet you didnt think about this! San Antonio is also alot friendlier. Good size city with a small town heart.

Hwy 281 North from Trinity all the way outdoors of 1604 has plenty to furnish. The extra north you bypass, the more beneficial the area, yet extra site visitors topics. even although if you're coming from Houston, the site visitors right here will appear as if not some thing.

NISD (Northside) is a great district. If you got kids, schools are great!

Speak like them. They like to hear there voices sometimes. Also you might have mean neighbors so try to do something nice for them when you get there and you'll have friends in no time at all!!!
