A life spent on regrets, that for me is a life wasted.

A life lived in fear. A life where you never took a risk, played it safe, never went after your dreams, just went through the motions. Never felt passion or love. Never felt true joy or despair. Never really experienced anything fully. A life where you weren't yourself. Where you weren't even sure who you were & never took the time to discover what you wanted, much less go after it. A life spent hiding (from failure, success, love, experience, life) in front of a TV set every day and night watching other people live their lives instead of going out & living your own. (Hey I'm not knocking TV, but sometimes you've got to get up & do something else!) Afraid to learn, afraid to try, afraid to grow. A life where you stagnate in a rut & never get out.

A life wasted is one that isn't really lived. One where your heart isn't in it. You're like a zombie just existing, not living. A life wasted is one where you look back with regrets for all that you could have done & didn't do.

The good news is, it's never too late! Even if you feel you've wasted or are wasting your life, you can change! You could be 80 years old & decide to write a novel or take up photography or fall in love. Every day is a chance to start over. Every moment is a new chance to go after your dreams. Just get out & do it! Try! If you stumble, get up & try again! Mistakes are part of life. That's how you know you're living and learning. Live laugh learn love.

Don't waste your life.

On one hand, the point of life is to experience living -- and you can experience pretty much anything at all in a truly wonderous range of possibilities -- so really, there is no such thing as a wasted life.

But that being said, I guess to me a life wasted would be one in which you spend all your time struggling against problems that seem to come from the outside, and trying to force your experiences to conform to your view of how things "should be."

in doing that, you ignore how things ARE, which is really the existential fact of your life. If you never realize that you have to start where you are, then you never get the power to go where you want to go, so your journey is never really started.

This is an interesting question, for would it not be proper to first ask what is needed for a fulfilled life, or an unwasted life. Then mustn’t we ask whom it is that worth is being asked of, this is to say that the life of a dog is but a simple one requiring no real question of such and life would be but a function of to live, being that to simply live would mean the fulfillment of life. But since this is a philosophical forum I am going to assume this is a question directed towards rational agents only. Even in regard to these rational agents the need arises to ask which rational agent is being judged, and then here as well we are stuck to ponder. Is it right to take worth in relation to a universal or is it that worth should be found within the individual, leading to the need to ask the question already stated earlier.
Overall what I am getting at is the problem that is created when asked for self judgment in comparison to judgment of another. Should we rely on the self for our feelings of accomplishments or on the recognition of others? Overall it is not an easy question to answer, what is indeed a wasted life, can their be such a thing? So at this point I think that the words of Plato (or Socrates if you prefer) hold truest, “the unexamined life is not worth living”

A life wasted is a life during which you take no chances. I wasted life is one you live and hate what you do.

A life wasted in one during which, when you die, no one remembers you with a smile or misses you.
