My husband is thinking of getting a vasectomy, I know he is a little scared about it, is there anyone that has had one and can let me know what they do and how you feel afterwards, etc? I really appreciate him doing this so I don't have to be on the pill anymore.

Having a vasectomy is a good idea. It is an office procedure that is quick and all that is required is local anesthesia. Basically, there are two techniques you can choose from: First is the real permanent one which involves removal of a segment of the vas (abt 1 cm) and burying back the remaining stumps. This is the type which is difficult to reverse. Another technique is simple cutting of the vas and tying both ends. This method is nice if you might decide to have it reversed in the future. This can be reversed easily. Let me dispel some myths abt vasectomy.
1. It affects erection (renders one impotent). Of course not!
2. It lessens the intensity of orgasm. Again, it does not affect orgasm .
Perhaps the only effect is an insignificant reduction in semen volume, but this does not impair orgasm at all. And the pain associated with the procedure is mild and subsides a few days after the procedure. Go ahead, have a vasectomy. You wont regret it.

I had a vasectomy after the birth of our third child and when I knew that I didn't want to father any additional children with either my wife or any other person.

It was sore for about 3 days and then got better fairly quickly. I used ice packs for the first 24 hours as instructed. Packing ice around your testicles was as unpleasant as any other part, but as long as they were kept cold they didn't swell or hurt as much.

Sexual relations after the vasectomy was a "little tender" the first couple times, but soon became normal. I have never regreted the decision or wished to have it reversed. Looks the same, feels the same, tastes the same, ejaculates the same, etc. Just no sperm!

My husband had one and ended up having (for lack of technical terms) one of the tubes spring a slow leak of blood. He ended up swelling the size of a softball. We ended up in emergency with him on morphine for a couple days. After about a month the swelling went down, but took almost a year for it to go down completely. However, he'd do it all over again. The freedom of knowing there was no chance of pregnancy actually enhanced the experience.

My ex had it done, and was a big baby for the first day or two, then he was back out climbing telephone poles again. My brother went to the Mall after his and shopped. It depends on the guy and how much he can handle. My ex was a big baby when it comes to anything painful, but he did it and survived.

I've had a vasectomy (about 20 years ago). Nice to be free of the worry of unwanted reproduction.

Not very painful, good drugs. :)

Never noticed one, even slight, change in my sex life.

I have had one for a number of years. Office procedure - took about 10 minutes. Wife drove me home. Felt like someone had hit me "down there" for a few days. No real discomfort. He has to ejaculate for a few weeks to make sure the sperm is no longer present. It is very nice for both parties.

The needle hurts, the operation is painless, your balls hurt for two to three days, its important to take it easy for yhe first couple of days, have sex as soon as you feel comftable. And remember you dont start shooting blacks for weeks or months. Sperm quantity, colour ect is the same but it may be a little more watery. My man had it done...

Depending on the technique that your doctor used, you may have stitches in your scrotum. To prevent an infection from developing, it is best to keep the stitches dry. When you do shower, use an antibacterial soap. Vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilization and/or permanent birth control. During the procedure, the male vasa deferentia are severed and then tied/sealed in a manner so as to prevent sperm from entering into the seminal stream and thereby prevent fertilization from occurring. Vasectomies are usually performed in a physician's office, medical clinic, or, when performed on an animal, in a veterinary clinic hospitalization is not normally required as the procedure is not complicated, the incisions small, and the necessary equipment routine.
