probably to ridicule them.

The ones that think Gay Guys want to flirt with them just want an Ego Boost. The ones that hope a Gay Guy will talk to them either have this need to hurt someone or maybe questioning their own sexuality.

I think everyone missed the key point here... those guys are most likely BI-CURIOUS, not gay, bi or even straight, but curious to try the other side for a change yet either afraid to fully indulge their curiosity or opportunity had yet to present itself, so they 'test the waters' bi flirting. There are many bi-curious men and women in this world... it just takes the right amount of prodding to get it out of them and women seem to get it out of men easily as do men women - maybe it's kind of an okay-like endorsement that allows them to let their guard down. I'd say there are more curious people than straight.

The behavior you have observed may not have been "flirting" You may be confusing polite, respectful interaction with flirting.
If you are very young, you may not have developed the adult social skills to recognize what is going on. With children, and teens, socializing is either close and casual, or totally ignoring someone not of their clique. For them, being nice to someone of the opposite sex IS flirting, or perceived as so. So, if two men (or young men) are seen being nice to each other, other youths may think that this is flirting behavior when it may not actually be.
It CAN be awkward when, as you have seen, this polite behavior is mistaken by one party as some form of "come on," but this happens, often with heterosexuals. For example, when a girl is just being nice to a guy, and the guy mistakes this as an invitation for something not intended.
Mature people are able to just deal with the awkwardness and move on.

I have had one or two "straight guys" flirt with me. I don't think they are "straight" the more they drink the more suggestive they become, as the old saying goes, "what's the difference between a straight man and a gay man?" I usually say 6 pints of strong lager.

They long to hear the word "YES" every now and then. Hopefully the gay boys this misguided mis-fit straight dude flirts with knows that it's just another little boy trying to prove he's a 'man'. Probably has to sit to pee, evidently his aim isn't any better in the 'itty-bitty boys room' either.

Usually it's the sex-crazed straight boys that flirt us gay boys...they want the validation and they almost get off on getting us off...even though, like you said, they're not gay/bi. Usually the straight boys that flirt, are my girlfriends' boyfriend's. I'd much rather have a straight boy flirt with me than a gay boy - it's so much more difficult to get one...yum!

they do it because it makes them feel good to have someone come on to them, it inflates their ego and gives them a power trip when they say no. It happens all the time, but they would never admit that they were actually flirting. But c'mon straight guys love to have their ego stroked so anyone who will do it for them is fine.

I think people just like to flirt (it doesn't always mean that they want to jump your bones). I have had straight men flirt w/ me but I just kinda play it off as a joke (even if I am inwardly flattered). Some people flirt with everybody because they want to prove to themselves (by others' responses) that they are sexually attractive (to members of both sexes).

I heard Kaya on Temptation Island say the answer on TV, and then when I met him personally he bore it out and flirlted with me, a guy, though I doubt Kaya is gay by orientation. The reason guys do this is that guys -- all guys -- want to "know their value on the market," as Kaya said. Anyone responding to his flirting, guy or girl, showed he had value enough to attract them back, and that strokes the guy's (Kaya's) ego, no matter who is doing the stroking.

As you pointed out....when alone they say "uhmmm, no that's to far, I'm not gay." It's because they like to prove their manhood, the thought that they could get anyone, even a guy if they wanted him. They aren't really interested......just randy.
Don't sweat it......stick to those who really want ya.
