Well, this is what I did...I first got a chord chart, and practiced the chords, and basically teaching myself to get used to moving my fingers from chord to chord. Then I got a book that has simple songs to pick along to. After you get good at playing individual notes, you can try to play songs you like, and make up little songs of you own...so basically just mess around and play little songs until you get better, I guess...

I used a learn-at-home course and it was both very effective and very inexpensive compared to hiring a guitar teacher. Also, it enabled me to progress at my own pace, practice whenever I had free time.
Best advice i can give you is to go to ReviewsNest.com - the reviews site where i read about the course i bought: http://www.reviewsnest.com/GuitarLessons . They give free reviews for several guitar courses, tell U what to look for in a course, what are the best courses around, and what u get in each course they checked.
I bought the LMG course (their top pick) so i can only vouch for it - I don't know about the other courses. However - the course i bought is excellent, and their review of it was spot-on, so i guess the other reviews they put for the other courses are good too. LMG - the course i bought - costs $250 (i got it on sale for $200), so it may be too expensive 4U (is it?) but if so - the other courses reviewed cost between $20 to $40 only, and also seem great.
Good luck, whatever you choose. Rock On!
Andy.

Well, unless you have a friend that can show you......I can only suggest you go to a guitar shop in your city, and they can usually get you hooked up with someone who does lessons, or alot of times, the shops that sell them solely usually offer lessons there.
And since they sell them, thier customer base is large enough that they can send you in someone's direction.

You may also look up chord formation sheets online. I would think there would be some free ones out there. Alot of band sites have them as free downloads too. So, little by little, you can try to teach yourself too.
Just some suggestions........happy strummin', pickin and a grinnin' to ya!

I would find a good teacher. Otherwise, you could go to a music store and purchase guitar learning books or videos. In this day of the internet, I'm sure you could find something there, too.

If you are not going to take lessons, you could buy a chord chart and learn your chords that way. Also, there are plenty of computer based learning programs that start with the basics.

You need to call a music store they will be happy to make referrals, Some stores have on site teaching facilities or they can arrange to send a instructor to your home, It is best to learn from a instructor instead of do it your self methods. Enjoy.

Hi, I've just started recently, also. I recommend getting a beginning guitar book at your local music store. The staff can help choose what you need. They may also offer lessons to get you started, or to help you get further after you get yourself started.

Have fun!
