I pierced my own ear lobes about a week ago, I know it was stupid. I poured boiling water over the needles and earrings before I did it and have been cleaning them 2-3 times per day with warm salt water and the stuff they gave me when I got my first holes done (water and 0.01% benzalkonium chloride). One is healing well, it's not sore and the discharge is whitish. The other is a bit painful if I press on it, but it doesn't hurt to turn it. The discharge is light greenish then darkens as it dries into a crust and it bleeds when I clean it. It's not getting any better or any worse. The salt soaks help a lot, but is there anything else I can do to help it heal? Should I see a doctor? This is the first time I've had problems with piercings, and also the first time I've followed all the aftercare instructions!!

Put in a "good" post, like the one that they use in the mall for piercings. Put healing ointment, like neosporin, on your ear and twist it every morning and at night. Try your hardest not to touch it during the day. When you do touch it, use lots of purell on your hands. If you go to the doctor, he's just going to take out the earing and tell you to let it close up. You don't have to go to the doctor to do that. If your ear is red and oozing, take the earring out, put on the neosporin and it will close up like any other wound.

umm so what if you poured boiling water over the needles? that doesnt do one thing./...that might be sanitizing it but its not STERILIZING. you need to use sterilized needles.. nothing besides the sea salt soaks is going to helpp.. im surprised your smart enought o know how to do those.. you need to go to the docotr if it gets worse and probably will need to take it outl. and next time use somethig in your head called A BRAIN and get it done professionally at a body piercing shop...... but it does sound like it infected...

but boiling water doesnt do anything the professionals use an oven called autoclave that kills everything on the needles and jewelry... that is the only way to STERILIZE>..

and your not supposed to twist them either..... your not supposed to touch them period...

but yes you shoudl see a doctor before it spreads to your cartilage and makes your ear collapse...... that is the worst that can happen anyways....

please! i beg you! i read above and do not EVER USE NEOSPORIN RUBBING ALCOHOL OR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE ON YOUR PIECINGS!!!! why??

neosporin(any ointment) will only trap the dischare and porevent it from escaping, causing a moist environment making your infection worse, or causing an infection in the other ear...

hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol will kill the good bacterias and tissues. it will also caus you more pain, increase you healing time and irritate and dry out your piercing....

please keep away from these products. keep trying the sea salt soaks with NON IODIZED sea salt and warm distilled water... and the aftercare pierce solution.

do not touch your piercing.. use the aftercare pierce solution twice a day and do the sea salt soak once a day for 15 minutes at a time...

do not take out the eariing wither. the hole will close and the infection will be trapped inside.... making it worse also... follow the sea salt soak and aftercare pierce solution... this si the best thing to do. follow everythign i said and hope that it gets better. if iot doesn get better and symptoms get worse you shoudl go see a doctor and get on some antibiotics. yes ointments and hydrogen peroxide and all are good for wounds. liek if you fall down but they are horrible for piercings...

I pierced my ear today with a sewing needle cleansed with rubbing alcohol, and so far i've only cleaned/rotated it once, but here's my future plan- i'm just going to use this stuff i got from a friend thats actually made for earring cleaning in the first 6 weeks, i'm not sure what it's called, but you should look for soemthing made specifically for earring cleaning, anyways i'm just going to clean the part sticking out the back, then slide it forward and clean the part that was in my ear, then clean the back, i'm also going to use it to clean all around the hole in my ear (front and back) all this i'm going to do with q-tips, if it gets infected i plan to use neosporin, but there's no way in hell i'm going to take this thing out cause you have no idea how long i've been considering piercing.

You could try applying a little hydrogen peroxide to your infected earlobe. If the peroxide doesn't clear up the infection, you might want to try some antibiotic cream. If that doesn't work, maybe a doctor should look at the earlobe for you.

YEA, i hadd that. I am so srry to say this but you might have to take your earring off and let your ear "chill" for 2 weeks. I had the greenish discharge and stuff, its usually just dirt. You have to pray so your hole don't close.

Take out the earring or it will get even more infected.
