For me there was none better than seeing the Cardinals win the World Series. It has nothing to do with the Tigers; any American League team. The fact that it took them only five games made it sweeter (only) because of what Prince Joe Henry wrote in the River Front Times dated August 17-23, 2006.
The question was put to him: "What do you think of the Cardinals' addition of Ronnie Belliard - can he help them lick the competition in the NL Central?"
Prince Joe Henry's classic response: "A sandlot player would have fared just as well. The National League Central has proven to be just a bunch of patsies. In fact, (he goes on to say), any team winning the National League pennent awaits their turn to get an American League butt-whippin'."

In the Sports Illustrated year end issue, the main four page story of The Best in Baseball is "Every Dodger Hitter is Hitting a Home Run."
The Dodgers who hit the second fewest homers in the National League, tied the game in the bottom of the 9th inning by hitting four straight home runs on four consecutive swings in a span of seven pitches. Only three teams in history have ever hit four consecutive home runs, and never to wipe out a deficit and not in the 9th inning.
When the Dodgers were trailing 9-5, the necklace of red tailights beyond centerfield quickly lengthened as the fans poured out to leave. Padres manager Bruce Bochy ordered future Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman to stop warming up. Yet he put Hoffman in after the first two home runs. After Hoffman's first pitch to Russell Martin went into the leftfield stands to make the score 9-8, the red tailights had turned into white headlamps with the fans swinging u turns back into the stadium.
Marlon Anderson, already with four hits, stepped to the plate. Bochy grumbled, "I hope we try something other than a fastball here." But Hoffman threw another fastball.
However in the 10th inning, the Padres scored. In the bottom of the 10th with Lofton on first, Padres pitcher Rudy Seanez didn't want to walk Nomar Garciaparra so he threw him a fastball. It was the Dodgers fifth home run in a span of 11 swings against three pitchers.
Bochy turned for the clubhouse before the last home run landed.

The Little League World Series. The kids from Georgia beat the kids from Japan 2-1. It was a well played game by both teams and as always the sportsmanship was second to none. Love MLB but who can argue with watching the kids do it for nothing more than the love of the game.

You would have to say the world series. You had a team that almost set the record for loses in a season a couple years prior and a team with only 83 wins matchup for the world series. It was good not to see the mets or yankees buy their way into the world series.

The September 18th game between the Dodgers and Padres when they hit 4 in a row and then a walk off in the 10th to win it. I was something to see on ESPN, but to have been there was something else. It was like we won the World Series. I hugged upwards to 10 total strangers that night. It was AWESOME!!
