It smells like cigarettes and no one in my house smokes. How can I get it to smell better if my family is coming over in like, three hours...thanks!

well diva, it sounds as though you may be renting and you are the recipient of the prior tenants leftovers; hair etc in the traps.
You might try a liquid Drano first, let set for 30 minutes and rinse with boiling water. Then put baking soda in a bucket and dilute it 2/3 water to 1/3 soda. a generous batch poured into trap with hot water, then backed up again in an hour with the same mix and leave it until the next time you shower.
Its non-toxic and will not hurt the pipes nor your shower pan.
best of luck with this project in a timely fashion b4 guests arrive.

Try some baking soda and vinegar. Pour the baking soda down the drain and then pour the vinegar. Let it bubble a few minutes. Boil a lemon (sliced) in a large pot of water. Remove the lemon and pour the hot lemon water down the drain. It will give it a nice lemony smell.

Bacteria in the drain line are creating the odor. If you have a septic tank you need to be careful what you pour down it, but if you are on sewer you could run a little bleach down the drain and follow with lots of hot water. The permanent solution is regular applications of a biodegradeable drain cleaner poured into all of your drains. They are readily available at hardware stores. For now: a little bleach if on sewer.

It is probably a combination between rotting hair and soap residue. Try some baking soda. Pour it down the drain and let is set for a while.
Then run the water . It will hopefully help temporarily.

Run out to the grocery store and grab some drain cleaner. It's probably hair, soap junk, dirt, etc.
