why do we never get any credit? seriously, we go through 2 & 1/2 weeks of non-stop marching during the summer and practice for 4 hours every other day. it is hard work to memorize your music... play it... march to the correct (exact ) spot in the correct amount of time. there is so much hard work put into our 15 min. show every year and no credit what so ever. our foot ball team gets more credit.. usually that is normall but our team sucks.. bad. last year we only won one game and the same for the year before. we work our butts of and cheerleading is a sport but marching band is not? WTF???

also, if you join concert band or wind symphony(advanced concert band) then you are automatically in marching band so there are about 250 mambers in our band. jazz band is voluntary... after school on your time. and if you choose you can try out for other ensambles in the county or state. or if you want,... you can even put your own ensamble together and he will let us play at the concert (if we are good) ----just to clarify----

When I was in high school, band was a credited course. There was concert band, which is the elected subject you got credit for and which was a part of the daily class schedule. If you were a member of that, you were automatically in the marching band which had anywhere from 110 to 125 members. You could choose to participate in the jazz band or the jazz ensemble (depending on the instrument you played) and the stage band (a big band that played progressive music, not to be confused with a dance band). All of those bands, other than the concert and marching bands, practiced on your time, either before or after school hours.

If you're not getting credit, it's because of your school board, not the individual school. The board sets the curriculum and the requirements of each subject taught.

I agree with you. Alot of people don't realize the hard work that is required of marching band. It really consumes alot of your time and brain power. Marching band like football is a tool to go to college as well as possibly going pro. However, it is football in which people want to watch and pay for. With TV, radio and the internet people aren't as entertained with watching a band play music, not enough action. Back in the past before football musicians were the majority of entertainment. It's funny to think about how then entertainers (singers, actors, musicians) were on the level of a Circus entertainer. Where as now they are idolized, just funny to me.

Marching band will take alot of a at the same time as up.i'm not confident in case you'll be able to swing a recreation and marching band.i replaced into in marching band for the period of severe college and we practiced 2 hours regular after college.Plus all the activities you need to attend.Honors instructions will be extra severe than prevalent ones.you need to spend extra time stuyding in case you want to do nicely.Marching band replaced into relaxing and taught me alot of self-discipline.desire that facilitates!

You deserve credit for the effort you put into going through the drills. But it seems as though a lot of people don't give you credit. Do it for the love of the music, self-fulfillment.

You are absolutely correct! You SHOULD get credit. If I remember correctly, I had to choose marching band, concert band, etc -- IF you wanted to stay in band. And I only received credit for 'band'. Talk to your teacher and see what they say - maybe he/she can talk to the principal which in turn can talk to the board. Good Luck, but in the meantime --- have fun, no matter how crappy your team is.
